What Does Ten Times Chai Have to Do With A Fresh Coat of Paint?

Michael Reingold, Assistant Administrator

In Hebrew, numerical values are assigned to each letter and every word therefore, has its own numerical value. The number 18 has always had a special significance as it represents the numerical value of the word Chai, which means life. Multiply Chai times ten, and you’ve multiplied your good fortune ten fold — 180! Do you think it is a total coincidence that the Jewish Home has 180 resident rooms?

The Jewish Home is always looking to keep our beautiful facility in tip top shape for our residents, their families and our staff. Beginning our sixth year of operation was time to give a fresh coat of paint to all our resident rooms. So in February, Mike Tedesco, Director of Maintenance, and his able staff took on this daunting task... don’t forget, almost all of our rooms are occupied all the time!

Under Mike’s guidance, the team of Roberto Flores, Joe Yap, Espi Alvarez, Rex Veloso and Elmer Ocampo took great care to methodically clear out the residents’ rooms with minimal disruption to the residents, completing each job within a given day. Even digital photos of the rooms were taken prior to painting to ensure every family photo, every memento and knickknack went back into the exact same spot in which they were found. To assure as little inconvenience and discomfort to all, special “no odor” paint was used for the project.

Kudos and a special thank you to our maintenance staff. 180 – ten times Chai. L’Chayim to all.
